Lanae-Tava Thomas making the most of first major senior championship

It may have been a year more than she would like, but Lanae-Tava Thomas' first major senior championship for Jamaica has been worth the wait at the biggest stage of all.

Thomas is making the most of her first Olympic Games in her debut professional season.

The long wait for her transfer of allegiance to be accepted caused her to miss out on last year's world championships in Budapest.

While she would have loved the circumstances to be different, she is not taking for granted what she is enjoying now.

"I am not going to say that I wouldn't change it for the world because if I would have gone last year, I would have anyways. But it was definitely worth it to experience just to be a part of this as a whole," Thomas told The Gleaner.

Thomas has been finding her way through her professional debut through trial and error.

But she says she is slowly finding her feet.

"Tried some things, some things didn't work out. Trying some new things, some things didn't work. It's my first year as a pro, so it's trying to figure out everything as we go. It's been rocky but I think we are straightening it out," Thomas said.

Thomas, who will compete in the women's 200m, says while she is soaking up the experience, she is determined to use of her Olympics debut as a springboard for greater things.
