A Laventille pensioner died yesterday morning after the car she was in careened into a river in Roxborough, Tobago.

Police said Marjorie Harry Orr was in the front seat passenger when, around 8.35 am at the intersection of Richmond Orchard Drive and Windward Road, the driver, her husband Thomas Orr, 78, stopped to allow a car to pass.

Police said the 30-year-old driver of the other vehicle also stopped to allow the vehicle Orr was in to pass. Ultimately, both drivers moved at the same time, causing a collision that sent the vehicle Orr was in plunging about 30 feet down a precipice into the Richmond River.

The couple, of Wharton Street, Laventille, were pulled from the car and taken to hospital; however, Orr was later declared dead.

A video on social media showed passersby pulling the two out of the partially submerged car and a man performing CPR on Orr to resuscitate her.

Just last Monday, Kalisa Danclair, a 29-year-old Siparia mother and sales representative at HADCO Ltd, tragically died after her car plunged into the South Oropouche River near Rahamut Trace, Debe.

Her vehicle reportedly struck a steel barrier on a narrow bridge, destroying about 10 feet of railing before becoming fully submerged. Despite rescue efforts by residents, firefighters, and the Hunters’ Search and Rescue team, Danclair could not be saved.

Her common-law partner, Brian Ravello, arrived at the scene shortly after. Residents said the bridge has been the site of previous accidents, and local officials, including MP Dr Lackram Bodoe, have called for urgent upgrades, including opening a nearby, unused bridge built under the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension.
