Law Enforcement Launches Countrywide Joint Checkpoints and Safety Push

In related news, residents, drivers and commuters are advised to be prepared for an uptick in joint law enforcement operations, comprised of the Police Department, Belize Defence Force, Belize Coast Guard, Immigration Department, and Customs.  Under these operations, coordinated checkpoints will take place across the country on land and sea.  Authorities advise motorists that to remain compliant with the law at any checkpoint, drivers should slow down and stop when directed by any authorized law enforcement officer, including Customs acting alone or jointly with police or defense personnel; remain inside the vehicle unless instructed otherwise; provide valid identification and driver’s license upon request; answer lawful questions and allow lawful inspections of vehicles when officers state there is reasonable cause, and avoid confrontation or refusal, as failure to comply may lead to detention or charges.
