Law enforcement officials detained under SOE in Trinidad and Tobago

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has detained two law enforcement officials as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the country.

The two officers—one a police officer and the other a prison officer—were among three suspects apprehended on Thursday under Preventative Detention Orders issued in line with the Emergency Powers Regulations 2025, under the current state of emergency (SOE).

The operation, described by the TTPS as a coordinated intelligence-led exercise, was carried out across the Port of Spain, North Eastern, and Northern Divisions. Members of the Special Investigations Unit successfully served and executed three Preventative Detention Orders, with all detainees processed and taken into custody for safekeeping, the police said in a statement.

Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro highlighted that the arrests demonstrate the TTPS’s robust intelligence capabilities and its commitment to tackling criminal elements threatening national stability.

“The TTPS will use every lawful measure available under the State of Emergency to disrupt and dismantle criminal syndicates. The TTPS is acting strategically and intentionally, which sends a clear message that the Police Service will do what is necessary to ensure that the rule of law will prevail,” Commissioner Guevarro said.

Since the SOE was imposed in July, following the uncovering of a plot to destabilize the country, more than 160 people have been detained under similar orders.
