Leaders of Belize, Mexico, and Guatemala to Meet in Calakmul for High-Level Talks

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo will hold a trilateral meeting with Belize’s Prime Minister John Briceño and Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo this Friday in Calakmul, Mexico. The meeting, which follows Sheinbaum’s “Mañanera del Pueblo” press conference in Chetumal, holds significant diplomatic weight as it gears at strengthening relations between and among the three nations. Love News understands that this high-level summit underscores its strategic importance to regional cooperation and development. The meeting provides an opportunity for Belize to advance key interests, particularly concerning infrastructure, trade, and border security. Previous discussions between Belize and Mexico have focused on expanding the Tren Maya railway project into Belize, building a bridge across the Zaragoza Channel to improve connectivity, and enhancing trade relations. This trilateral forum is expected to produce concrete announcements and agreements that will solidify these initiatives, potentially leading to significant economic and developmental benefits for Belize.  The strategic choice of Chetumal and Calakmul as meeting locations highlights the importance of the southern border region to Mexico’s new administration. For Belize, this signals a renewed commitment from Mexico to its shared border and its role as a partner in Central America. The talks are expected to address shared challenges, including environmental conservation of the trinational nature reserve and cooperative strategies to address security issues.
