The body of legendary Jamaican boxer Mike McCallum is to arrive in Jamaica on Friday, as the island prepares to say farewell to one of its most iconic sporting heroes.
McCallum, affectionately known as “The Body Snatcher” for his punishing body shots in the ring, passed away recently in the United States at the age of 68.
The funeral service for the former world champion will be held at The Holy Trinity Cathedral, located on North Street in Kingston, on August 16.
A public viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., allowing fans, family, and friends the opportunity to pay their final respects.
The funeral service will begin immediately afterward at 11:00 a.m.
McCallum, a former WBA super welterweight, WBA middleweight, and WBC light heavyweight world champion, remains the only Jamaican boxer to have won world titles in three weight divisions.
His storied career and legacy have earned him a place among the greats in boxing world and in Jamaica’s sporting history.
