Jamaican International Leon Bailey scored his first ever goal in the European Champions League today as Aston Villa beat Club Brugge 3-1 in the first leg of their round of 16 clash in Belgium.

Bailey scored in the fourth minute to become only the fourth Jamaican International to score in the Champions League behind Wes Morgan for Leicester City in 2017 at the round of 16 stage, Renaldo Cephas for Shkupi at the preliminary stage in 2022 and Rolando Aarons for Celje in 2024 at the preliminary stage.

Fellow English side Arsenal captured the headline on the day with a stunning seven star performance after seeing off PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in the Netherlands with captain Martin Odegaard scoring twice.

It was Arsenal’s biggest Champions League win history in an away game.

Champions Real Madrid stopped city rivals Atletico 2-1 at the Bernabeu with goals from Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz while Frenchside Lille got a very crucial 1-all away draw with Borussia Dortmund.

The second legs in these ties will be played next week.
