Lighthouse Ride Belize Raises $1.4 Million for Catholic Schools

The Lighthouse Ride Belize fundraising initiative, spearheaded by Father Matt Ruhl of the Catholic Church in Belize, has been successfully completed, raising an estimated $1.4 million to support Catholic primary schools across the country.  Love News first reported on the ambitious initiative in July 2025, when Father Ruhl announced plans to undertake the long-distance fundraising ride in the United States to draw attention to the urgent needs of Belize’s Catholic education system. Fast forward to today, and the campaign has surpassed early expectations, mobilizing international support and generating significant financial backing for Belizean children and schools.  Known for his deep commitment to national development and social service, Father Ruhl described the Lighthouse Ride Belize as more than a fundraising drive. He explained that the ride was designed as a “hook” and a conversation starter to attract international attention to the deteriorating conditions facing Catholic primary schools in Belize.  The initiative set a long-term fundraising target of five million U.S. dollars, aimed at repairing and restoring 112 Catholic primary schools serving more than 32,000 students nationwide. These schools operate across approximately 432 buildings, many of which are in urgent need of structural repairs due to termite damage, aging infrastructure, and other safety concerns.  In a video shared during the campaign, Father Ruhl spoke about the inspiration behind the fundraiser, emphasizing the responsibility to ensure that Belizean children have safe, dignified learning environments.

The estimated $1.4 million raised so far is expected to provide critical relief for several schools in need of immediate repairs.
