Bright smiles and colourful socks lit up the Down Syndrome Family Network (DSFN) – Tobago conference as a group of super-fun kids from Little Jewels Early Childhood Centre joined in the celebration! Under the guidance of Director/Principal Kathleen Quashie, these young stars made the day extra special.
Dejane Phillips, Azariah Duke, Elaina Clarke, Reina Jordan, and Azai Ottley had an absolute blast! They attended the exciting event on March 18, just days before World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.
What’s Rock Your Socks? It’s a worldwide party where everyone wears crazy, mismatched, brightly coloured socks! Why socks? Because people with Down syndrome have three copies of the 21st chromosome—and on a special picture of chromosomes (called a karyotype), they look just like fun, mismatched socks! This year’s theme is “Together Against Loneliness”, reminding us that friends, inclusion, and big hugs make everyone feel happy and connected.
The Little Jewels crew dove into all the awesome activities. They coloured their own super socks with wild patterns and sparkles, laughed a lot, and learned how to spark conversations about kindness and celebrating what makes us all unique.
On March 19, these sock-rocking stars wore their creations to school and beyond, joining millions around the globe in one big, happy voice for the rights, inclusion, and joy of people with Down syndrome—in our schools, communities, and everywhere!
Way to go, Little Jewels kids and Kathleen Quashie! You made the world a brighter, sock-ier place.
