Logging Damages Ancient Maya Mounds in Boston Village

The Ministry of Culture is awaiting a report from the Institute of Archaeology to determine the extent of the damage done to ancient Maya mounds in Boston Village in the rural Belize District, due to logging activity. Two weeks ago, the Forest Department was called into the area to investigate unauthorized logging activity when it was discovered that some of the ancient Maya mounds in the area had been bulldozed. Minister of Culture Francis Fosneca says that the institute has been called in to carry out an inspection, and he is awaiting the results of the report to determine what steps should be taken.

Chairman of Boston Village Nickoli Alvarado has gone on record to say that there are various mounds in the area that are a part of the Altun Ha.
