Lords Bank Man Claims He Lost Job After Seeking Help for Unpaid Wages

2 weeks ago 2

Kent Brown, a Belizean laborer of Lords Bank Village is currently unemployed after seeking assistance from the Labor Department regarding allegation of unpaid salaries by his former employer Ladyville Technical High School (LTHS). Brown stopped by our studios today and spoke about his situation.

Kent Brown: “Well, I feel like they terminate me unfairly. I tried to get help, went to the Labor Department and I feel like they didn’t really help me so I came to the media.”

Reporter: And why did you go to the Labor Department?

Kent Brown: “Reason being, there was a shortfall in all the security guards payment. Without our knowledge, they made some deductions and when I received my salary, automatically I saw that my salary was not complete, so I had to report it today.”

Reporter: Okay. So what is your total time for your shift?

Kent Brown: “Twelve hours. Twelve hours a day, without a lunch break.”

Reporter: So you’re not given a lunch break?

Kent Brown: No, we work during lunch. If parents come to visit, we do our work and have lunch at the same time. We never clocked out one hour for lunch.”

Reporter: But have you seen the records that reflect your 12-hour shift?

Kent Brown: “Well, when I received a pay slip for the entire month, I realized that they were paying me for 11 hours because they said we took an hour for lunch. But I tried to tell her we don’t have any lunch break. So, if they deducted money without our knowledge, that is theft to me. And they didn’t want to hear my word. I had to get mad and it kind of escalated. I ended up the labor department to report the issue.”

Reporter: So you did mention this to them and what was their response in regard to it?

Kent Brown: “Well, I feel like, I don’t know, I know. I always feel like certain people treat security guards like they’re incompetent, they’re not sharp enough on mathematics or in anything.  assist security guards as slow and because they’re people that are teachers and principal, I feel like they were trying to use that against me and I spoke up against it.”

Love News contacted the school’s chairperson Sandra Perez regarding the incident. Perez stated that she will not comment further on the matter and will maintain the Institution’s position regarding Brown’s termination.
