There is a correction to a court story to be made tonight. After we aired the story of the Sydney Peyrefitte case yesterday, a senior official of the National Forensic Science Service contacted Love News to clarify that the firearm analysis was completed months ago. Our report stated that the court was still awaiting a forensic report on the firearm allegedly connected to the murder of Kenneth “Big Tom” Flowers. It also included information presented in court suggesting that the forensic officer who had been handling the report had left Belize and that another officer was assigned to complete the work. The senior forensic official says that account is incorrect if it refers to an officer of the National Forensic Science Service. The official also says it is untrue that the firearm report has not been provided to police. According to the NFSS, its firearm analysis was completed in January and the report was issued to the Belize Police Department. This means that while the report may not yet have been disclosed to Peyrefitte or presented to the court, the outstanding delay is not with the National Forensic Science Service. It remains unclear where the breakdown in the disclosure process occurred.
Peyrefitte appeared before the Chief Magistrate on Wednesday, when the police prosecutor requested another adjournment. The court was told that CCTV footage and the firearm report had not yet been disclosed to the accused. The Chief Magistrate raised concern about the delay, noting that Peyrefitte received only partial disclosure in June and has been on remand for almost ten months. Peyrefitte was arraigned on October 8, 2025, for the murder of Flowers. His case has been adjourned until September 4, when the court is expected to review the remaining disclosure and determine whether a date can be set for the preliminary inquiry. Love News acknowledges the error and regrets the incorrect impression that the National Forensic Science Service had not completed its part of the investigation.
