Top Jamaican swimmer, Emily MacDonald, lowered her personal best in the women’s 50-metres freestyle twice at the three day Tornadoes Invitational at the Stadium Pool, over the weekend.

On Saturday she won in 25.83 seconds to become the fastest woman ever while swimming in Jamaica. MacDonald went even faster with a swim of 25.74 seconds to win on Sunday.

The previous fastest time was 25.91 seconds that was set by two regional Olympians, Trinidad and Tobago’s Sharntelle Maclean from 2004 and Jillian Crooks from the Cayman Islands in 2023.

Coach of Swim Aquatic, Lynval Lowe, says she is now the second fastest Jamaican woman of all time.

Lowe says only Olympian and regional icon Alia Atkinson is faster with her national record of 25.47 seconds set at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia.

He says MacDonald is now the front runner to represent Jamaica at the Paris Olympics.
