Man Accused of Arson Granted Bail After Alleged Double Attempt to Burn Ex’s Home

Last week, he tried to burn down his ex-girlfriend’s home twice within a six-hour period.  Today, however, 21-year-old Sir Hugh Anthony Andrewin is out on bail for a charge of arson. Andrewin appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate Court this morning, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was granted bail in the sum of fifteen hundred dollars plus one surety of the same, which he met. His bail also came with the condition that he does not contact the homeowner, Hanisha Castro, or any member of her family and remain 100 yards away from them. His next court date is August 11. Allegations are that on June 12, Andrewin turned on the gas stove and set a sofa set on fire at Castro’s home on Flamboyant Street in Belize City.  The story is that Andrewin was angry after Castro’s daughter broke up with him. The family managed to douse the first fire, which was set around ten o’clock that night.  Andrewin returned to the house around four the following morning and set fire to a curtain, which then damaged another sofa set along with a window. Andrewin told the court he has since moved out of Castro’s home and went back to his home in Buttonwood Bay.
