Man Accused of Assaulting Aunt With Chair Granted Bail

A 20-year-old Belize City man appeared in court yesterday, charged with aggravated assault upon his own aunt. Christopher Steven Herbert, a shop assistant, is accused of throwing a wooden chair at his 55-year-old aunt, Mahalia Williams, during a family dispute on Sunday.  Williams reported to police that Herbert began to curse and insult her before throwing the chair, which fortunately missed her. She requested court action. Herbert pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was granted $800 bail on the condition that he does not interfere with his aunt or prosecution witnesses and must stay at least 100 yards away from his aunt. Violation of these conditions would result in bail revocation.
