Man Accused of Damaging Police Vehicle After Placencia Confrontation

Police are investigating an incident on the Placencia Peninsula involving Stoney Ferguson, who is reportedly living with mental and physical challenges, allegedly assaulted an officer and damaged a police vehicle.  The incident reportedly began around five-fifteen on Saturday evening at a vehicle checkpoint near Mile 22 on the Placencia Main Road. Police say officers attempted to stop a white cargo truck after observing that it was missing a license plate and that the driver was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.  According to the police report, the driver initially pulled away but was later located on Crimson Two Drive. He was informed of the alleged traffic violations and cautioned, but police claim he became verbally abusive, refused to comply with an arrest and pushed one of the officers.  The man was subdued and taken to the police station, where he was subsequently released from custody. Police allege that shortly after his release, he picked up a large stone and threw it at an officer. The stone narrowly missed the officer but reportedly shattered the front and rear windshields of a police vehicle. He allegedly attempted to throw another stone but was restrained.  The value of the damage has not yet been determined. Police are reportedly seeking a warrant for the man as the investigation continues. His reported mental and physical challenges, and whether these may have contributed to the confrontation, are also expected to be considered.
