The man accused of stabbing a 13-year-old high school student at her home in Harbour View, Bayshore, St Andrew has turned himself in to the police.
He has been identified as 29-year-old Kemar Mitchell, who reportedly surrendered to investigators at the Kingston East Police Division on Thursday evening after being warned by authorities.
Mitchell is expected to be questioned by detectives.
The injured teen, Kemelia Paul, is a seventh grade student at Excelsior High School in St Andrew.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on May 9 during a dispute involving members of the girl’s family at their home in Bayshore Park, Harbour View. It is alleged that Mitchell used a knife to stab the teenager during the confrontation, leaving her seriously injured.
“My daughter and another relative tried to break up the fight and push him off,” the child’s mother, Josephine Mitchell, said in an emotional interview on Wednesday.
The attack has sparked widespread outrage on social media, particularly after it was revealed that the teen required urgent medical treatment.
She has reportedly undergone two surgeries so far, with additional procedures expected.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
