A 24-year-old Las Lomas man is in police custody after officers discovered a firearm and ammunition during a routine mobile patrol in Tunapuna early Friday morning.
Police said that around 2:45 am on August 8, officers from the North Central Division Task Force — including Cpl. Grant, WPC Horrell, and two members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force — were on patrol along Upper Balthazar Street when they spotted a silver Nissan Sentra heading in the opposite direction.
The driver was allegedly using a mobile phone while operating the vehicle. Officers stopped the car and, after requesting the driver’s documents, conducted a search of the vehicle.
During the search, they reportedly found a firearm fitted with a magazine containing seven rounds of 9mm ammunition in the glove compartment. The driver, the sole occupant of the car, was arrested at the scene for possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The suspect, of Crystal Street, Las Lomas, was taken to the Tunapuna Police Station, where the weapon and ammunition were secured as evidence.
Investigations are continuing.
