Man chopped after refusing to give a cigarette

A 23-year-old Rio Claro man has been detained after allegedly chopping his uncle when he refused to give him a cigarette.

Around 12:20 pm on Monday, the 43-year-old victim was sitting in the gallery of his Ecclesville, Rio Claro home when his nephew approached and asked for a cigarette.

After the victim refused, the suspect left and returned shortly after with a cutlass, chopping him on both hands.

The victim ran into the house and was assisted by his brother.

The suspect was also taken to the Rio Claro Health Facility for injuries to his neck.

The victim was transferred to the Sangre Grande General Hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

Investigations are ongoing.
