Man Fined for Assaulting Sister in Ladyville Family Dispute

A family dispute in Ladyville over the weekend ended in a brother pleading guilty to harming his sister in court today. Thirty-one-year-old Joel O’Campo, a construction worker from Orange Walk, was arrested and charged with harm after his sister, 30-year-old Glenda O’Campo, reported that he beat her up. The incident occurred Saturday, June 7, when Glenda O’Campo intervened in a verbal dispute between her brother and his common-law wife. She reported being hit multiple times, including to the head, back, rib cage, and face, causing her pain. She was later treated at the hospital. Appearing unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, Joel O’Campo pleaded guilty. He was fined $400 plus a $5.00 cost of court, due by the end of July 2025, or he faces four months in prison.
