Man Gets Over Two Years in Jail for Unlicensed Gun and Ammo

Thirty-seven-year-old Kenroy Caine will serve two years, one month, and 28 days in prison after pleading guilty to keeping an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Caine was sentenced late yesterday evening. While Caine has no prior convictions for similar crimes, the court imposed a sentence of 3 1/2 years for the firearm and 2 years for the ammunition. Due to his early guilty plea, Caine received a one-third discount, reducing his sentence to two years, three months for the gun and one year, three months for the ammunition. Further deductions for time spent in pre-trial detention, from May 15 to June 16, brought the final sentence to two years, one month, and 28 days. The sentences will run concurrently. Caine was arrested in May after police found the gun at his home. He claimed he found the weapon while landscaping on Faber’s Road and was taking it to the Belama Police Station. However, he was stopped at a police checkpoint, where officers observed him acting nervously and throwing an object into the bushes. Caine’s friend, George Gordon Jr., who was with him at the time, was acquitted after Caine took full responsibility for the firearm.
