A man was killed last night after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Solomon Hochoy Highway in an unlit area near the Debe overpass.
He has been identified as Clyde Boodoo of Gandhi Village, Debe.
Police did not provide an exact age but believed he was in his early ’50s.
Police said the incident took place around 9 pm. A woman was driving south along the highway in the right lane when she suddenly saw what appeared to be a plaid-coloured shirt in front of her vehicle. She told police she was unable to avoid hitting the man.
The vehicle sustained damage to the front bumper, bonnet, windscreen, and hood.
A district medical officer visited the scene and ordered the body removed, pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre in Port-of-Spain.
The vehicle was impounded at the San Fernando Police Station for inspection.
