Multi-talented singer, songwriter, deejay, Masicka turns up the heat with a brand-new summer-ready single titled Mute, out now via Def Jam Recordings.
Hailed as “the leader of the next generation of dancehall stars”, this follows Masicka’s leading nominations for the Caribbean Music Awards, including Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Dancehall Song of the Year, and Reggae Song of the Year.
On Mute, Masicka switches up his flow with ease, alternating between slick syncopation and a heart-racing cadence. However, don’t let the title fool you, Mute gets loud during its chantable chorus. He continues to pepper timeless dancehall rhythms with a fresh flavour of his own.
The accompanying visual opens with a shot of an astronaut at a piano, performing the song’s melody. The clip jumps back to Earth, where Masicka performs on the bed of a Cyber Truck. Taking flight as his wildest video to date, it’s futuristic, fiery, and fun.
Mute also drops on the heels of Whites (Remix), featuring French Montana, the video of which has amassed north of 2.3 million YouTube. Inciting tastemaker applause, VIBE plugged the song, and Kaboom Magazine spotlighted it as “another massive remix”.
Back in 2023, he unveiled Generation of Kings, powered by fan favourites Tyrant, LimeLight, Wet [featuring Fridayy], and more. Beyond posting up tens of millions of streams and views, he received widespread acclaim and continues to make waves. He received a YouTube Award for attracting more than one million subscribers to his channel and more than 580 million YouTube views.
His most recent independent LP, 438, became “Jamaica’s #1 album of 2022 on Spotify” and “the first project to spend an entire year in the Top 10 on Apple Music Jamaica”, a release stated.
Masicka emerged as one of three Jamaican artistes in Spotify Wrapped Jamaica for a Top 10 Album. Along the way, KAZI hailed him as “a great storyteller and a genuinely generational talent who understands what he is doing,” and GRUNGECAKE assured, “Jamaica’s Masicka is holding us down on the positivity front.”
