Masicka Shifts Focus from War to Love with the Release of Eight-Track EP ‘Her Name Is Love’

Masicka is choosing music over mayhem. Amid a highly publicised war of words with fellow dancehall heavyweight Tommy Lee Sparta, the Jamaican star has shifted focus to artistry, releasing his deeply personal eight-track EP Her Name Is Love today (December 19) via Def Jam Recordings. The project signals a clear pivot—less conflict, more connection—as Masicka explores love, vulnerability and emotional balance without dulling the sharp lyrical edge that made him one of dancehall’s most respected voices.

Far from a feature-heavy collaboration project, Her Name Is Love is a tightly curated body of work inspired by women and emotional intimacy. Masicka frames love not as weakness, but as discipline, strength and self-awareness. Across the EP, he moves fluidly through desire, devotion, loss and triumph, pairing melodic delivery with incisive storytelling over sleek, modern dancehall production. The result is a mature, cohesive project that broadens his sonic palette while staying rooted in the culture.

Speaking with Billboard Magazine, Masicka described the EP as an extension—not a departure—of who he is. “Her Name Is Love is really me tapping into another dimension of who I am, not stepping away from the grit, but showing that there’s more to the man behind the music,” he said. Acknowledging his female fanbase, he added that the project was created to speak directly to women—their stories, strength and emotional energy—capturing love in its many forms.

The release is complemented by exclusive visual narration via OkayPlayer, translating the EP’s themes into composed, cinematic imagery that asks: what would love look like if it had a physical form? From the hypnotic sway of “Whine All Night” to the emotional pull of “Lifetime” and the introspective honesty of “Keys,” the EP showcases range and restraint. With features from Lola Brooke and production firepower from Rvssian, Her Name Is Love positions Masicka in a reflective yet confident space—challenging traditional ideas of masculinity in dancehall and reinforcing his continued global ascent. The EP is available now on all major streaming platforms.
