Mason Greenwood is expected to represent Jamaica at the international level in the near future, according to a report from TVJ Sports on Tuesday.
The former Manchester United star has reportedly completed the long-anticipated switch of allegiance from England to Jamaica and is now awaiting his Jamaican passport.
Greenwood, 23, had previously made just one senior appearance for England, playing in a UEFA Nations League match against Iceland in 2020.
The move to switch national teams has been in progress for several months, but was delayed due to missing documentation requested by Jamaica’s Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA).
The document was needed from Greenwood’s British-born mother, through whom he qualifies to play for Jamaica. His eligibility also comes via his Jamaican-born grandfather.
The Athletic had reported earlier this year that Greenwood submitted a formal request to represent Jamaica, a country he has strong familial ties to.
The forward, who currently plays for Marseille in France’s Ligue 1, has kept quiet publicly regarding the switch, although speculation has been ongoing for nearly a year.
Amid the new reports on Tuesday, Greenwood did not address the matter directly but shared a casual photo on his Instagram Stories, appearing to be enjoying a day out.
Greenwood’s inclusion could be a major boost for the Reggae Boyz as they build toward future international tournaments and upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
