Mavado’s son, Dantay Brooks, has been arrested again in Jamaica, just months after his murder conviction was overturned, and just a week after his superstar father arrived on the island.
Reports indicate the charges are related to gun-related offenses, including assault, unlawful wounding, illegal firearm possession, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a scheduled offence.
The police said the new charges stem from an incident in Mavado’s hometown of Cassava Piece in St. Andrew.
“Three men have been detained in relation to the beating of an individual called ‘Hardy’, a gun was involved in the incident, Dantay Brooks is one of the individuals involved,” a police source told DancehallMag.
Brooks is also being investigated on a gun-related charge. Two other persons have also been arrested in connection with the incident. One of Brooks’ co-accused is being represented by Christian Tavares-Finson.
This is the second time official charges have been laid against Brooks who was freed in March this year after the Court of Appeal overturned his 2021 murder conviction. At the time, the then 18-year-old Brooks was sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2018 killing of Lorenzo Thomas in Cassava Piece, St Andrew.
His co-accused, Andre Hinds, was also freed.
