MAY DAY junior netball team got off to a rocket start in the second round of the ISSA Rural Netball Competition at the Manchester High School netball court on Tuesday, as the Janet Hunter-coached team scored two impressive wins.

The team, which had earlier this season defeated last year’s two finalists —Manchester High and Holmwood Technical — in the preliminary round, proved those victories were no fluke.

Playing in their first game of the day, they blew away Ocho Rios High 58-0, then returned later for another commanding 40-10 win over Black River High to take control of their group ahead of the quarter-finals.

Defending champions Holmwood Technical were also in a no-nonsense mood at the G.C. Foster College court, as the Carline Graham Powell-coached team recorded double success in their group with a 42-10 win over York Castle High and a 26-14 victory over Mt Alvernia High.

There was also success for pre-season favourites Denbigh High at The Queen’s School court in Kingston, after a big 44-2 win over St Thomas Technical.

Denbigh scored the biggest win of the day among seniors, as the Winston Nevers-coached team overwhelmed St Thomas Technical 49-10.
