Minister of Local Government, Desmond McKenzie, says the governing Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, has repaired and built more markets in Jamaica than the previous People’s National Party, PNP, administration.
Minister McKenzie was addressing recent criticisms made about repair works at the Mandeville market.
Earlier this year the mayor, Donovan Mitchell, said despite submitting 10 cost estimates, no funds had been released by the local government ministry to undertake repairs at the facility.
Mayor Mitchell says plans to renovate the market were shelved after the PNP lost the 2016 general elections.
Minister McKenzie says the JLP’s record on market renovation is commendable.
