Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie, is rejecting allegations that some municipalities are unable to carry out drain cleaning activities due to inadequate funding.
The concerns were raised by at least three PNP-controlled municipal corporations.
But speaking at a JLP meeting in South East St Andrew on Sunday, McKenzie dismissed the claims as political mischief.
The first complaint came last Wednesday from the Portmore Municipal Corporation.
The PNP councillors argued that the parochial revenue fund allocation is not enough to begin drain cleaning activities.
Similar concerns were echoed a day later by the Hanover Municipal Corporation.
The Westmoreland Municipal Corporation took it a step further, claiming that it’s still awaiting funds from the May to June period.
But citing receipts of allocations, Minister McKenzie says the JLP government does not include politics in disaster preparedness.
