LESS than three weeks after Scot Rambaran's body was found in his car in Centeno, a mechanic from St Helena and Arouca has been charged for his murder.

Justin Baird, 23, was charged on July 27 by PC Benaldo, of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region II, after instructions from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, SC.

Rambaran, from Oropune Gardens, Piarco, was reported missing on July 8 and was found murdered two days later, on July 10. Rambaran had left work and went home to collect $25,000, which he and his wife had withdrawn from the bank on July 7 after taking a loan to buy a car.

His wife told police a friend accompanied him and waited outside. He left around 4.30 pm in his white Toyota Corolla sedan, with the money.

When he failed to return, his wife reported him missing to the police. Rambaran's body was found sprawled across the passenger seat of his car. The money was missing.

Baird was also charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition when he appeared before Master Lisa Singh-Phillip on July 28. His sufficiency hearing has been set for January 30, 2026.

He was arrested in the Arouca district on July 22 by PC John of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region II and was formally charged on July 27
