The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) says an area of showers and thunderstorms east of the Windward Islands is showing signs of organisation.

In a statement issued today, Sunday 24 August 2025, the Met Service reported that at 8 am, the broad centre of the disturbance (AL99), associated with an active tropical wave, was located near 56W or about 300 km east of the Windward Islands.

“The system is moving westward at 37 km/h and currently has a medium, 40 percent chance of development over the next two to seven days,” the advisory notes.

According to the TTMS, the disturbance could become a tropical depression during the next day or two as it continues westward at 32 km/h to 40 km/h, crossing the Windward and Leeward Islands later today or on Monday.

The statement added:

“An Air Force reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon, if necessary.”

The TTMS says regardless of the system’s development, likely weather for Trinidad and Tobago includes periods of moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorm activity.

The Met Service stressed:

“There are currently no watches or warnings in effect for Trinidad and Tobago.”

The TTMS says it will issue an update at 9 pm today, or earlier, if the situation warrants.

It urged the public to pay close attention to official information by visiting www.metoffice.gov.tt, downloading its mobile app, or following its pages on X, Facebook and Instagram.
