Mexican Woman Killed in Corozal Border Crash

An evening of socializing in the Corozal Free Zone ended in tragedy when a thirty-one-year-old Mexican woman was killed in a collision involving her motorcycle and two cars near the Santa Elena Border.  The crash happened at around 9:35 last night near the OIRSA fumigation facility.  When police arrived, they found a damaged blue motorcycle, a silver Dodge Attitude on the median and a green Chevrolet along the roadside. The motorcyclist, Nidia Galdamez Hernandez, was found unresponsive near the median with injuries to her face, chest and left ankle.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Stacy Smith explained how the three vehicles became involved in the collision.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police have issued notices of intended prosecution as a part of the ongoing investigation into the death of 31 year old Mexican national Nadia Galdamis Hernandez which occurred at approximately 9:40pm on Sunday 26 July, 2026 near the Belize Mexico border. The investigation has so far disclosed that Hernandez was operating a motorcycle and she was heading towards the Mexican border and traveling behind her was a green Chevrolet motor vehicle. It is alleged that Hernandez swerved into the opposite lane of traffic and collided into a Dodge Altitude that was coming in the opposite direction resulting in a collision and her being fatally injured. Urine samples have been extracted from drivers of both of the vehicles as a part of the ongoing investigation.”

The Dodge was being driven by forty-three-year-old Jose Hernandez Saldivar, while fifty-one-year-old Montgomery Duque Pineda was driving the Chevrolet. Both men, as well as Hernandez, were from Othón P. Blanco in Quintana Roo, Mexico.  Hernandez was taken to the Corozal Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:23 this morning. Her body remains in the hospital morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination.  Love News understands that none of the three vehicles was insured and that the licenses held by both car drivers had expired.  Saldivar and Pineda were detained as part of the investigation, and urine samples were obtained from both men. Police are also expected to retrieve surveillance footage from the OIRSA facility as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.  Earlier today, the family of the deceased made a public appeal for financial assistance to get her body across the border for burial.
