Mexico and Belize unite for free international jazz night

The Embassy of Mexico in Belize is inviting the public to an evening of live jazz featuring performers from Belize and Mexico.  “A Night of Jazz: From Mexico to Belize” will be held on Friday, July 31, at seven o’clock in the evening at the Mexican Cultural Institute, located at the corner of Newton Barracks Road and Wilson Street in Belize City.  The event will feature Iyá, a jazz and funk band formed ten years ago in Chetumal, Quintana Roo. The Mexican group performs original music and covers, combining jazz with electric sounds and elements of rhythm and blues, soul and funk.  Belize will also be represented by the local jazz group ACE Trio. Organizers say the event is intended to promote cultural exchange between the two neighbouring countries through music.  Admission is free, but those planning to attend are encouraged to confirm their attendance by calling 223-1408.
