MIAMI, FL — The Miami Heat, in partnership with the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation and Carnival Corporation, have announced a $1 million donation to Direct Relief to aid recovery efforts in Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, the first Category 5 hurricane in the island’s history.
Direct Relief, a global humanitarian organization known for providing medical assistance in times of crisis, will use the funds to deliver essential medical supplies and support to impacted communities across Jamaica.
“Our hearts go out to the people of Jamaica,” said Eric Woolworth, president of the Heat Group’s business operations. “In Florida, we know the destruction a Category 5 storm can bring. Direct Relief provides the kind of long-term support that’s crucial for recovery.”
Carnival Corporation CEO Josh Weinstein emphasized the company’s deep connection to Jamaica and its people:
“We need to support its communities now more than ever. Donating to Direct Relief will help deliver vital assistance to families whose lives have been upended.”
According to Direct Relief, 100 field medic packs—each containing first-aid and triage supplies—have already been prepared for deployment. The organization has also shared its full medical inventory with Jamaica’s Ministry of Healthand stands ready to dispatch additional medicines and emergency materials as needed.
