Miami Heat’s Powell Set to Represent Jamaica at FIBA

Head coach of Jamaica’s Men Basketball team Rick Turner has confirmed that Miami Heat guard Norman Powell will be part of Jamaica’s team that will participate at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 pre-qualifiers in Mexico August 8 – 10.

Turner says the full announcement of the squad will be done in short order. 

Jamaica is drawn in Group B alongside Costa Rica, Barbados and Mexico.

The Jamaicans need to finish in the top two in order to punch their ticket to the qualifying round of the FIBA World  Cup. 

 According to Turner who was recently on the island conducting try-outs, while it will be a daunting task, he has full confidence in his players to get a top two finish. 

However, coach Turner was bouyed by the level of talent that he saw in Jamaica during his visit to conduct try-outs for the squad.
