Striker Michail Antonio joined the Jamaica national senior football team in training in London on Monday ahead of the start of the four team Unity Cup Tournament.

It was Antonio’s first time with the team after his horror car crash in December last year.

The West Ham United record goalscorer had suffered a broken leg, among other injuries, following a car crash in London, which saw him ruled out for the rest of the season.

The striker has seen a remarkable recovery since the incident and returned to the field in a training session with the national team.

Meanwhile, national coach Steve McClaren, says competing in the Unity Cup forms a big part of the’s preparation for the upcoming Gold Cup and CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.

The Reggae Boyz are in London for the competition which also features Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana and Nigeria, on May 27 and 31.

Jamaica will take on Trinidad and Tobago at 1pm Jamaica time on Tuesday at Brenford City’s Gtech Stadium, while Ghana and Nigeria do battle in the other match on the day, with the winners meeting in the final on Saturday.

McClaren says the competition is a good way for the fans in the diaspora to reconnect with the team.

The game is the third meeting between the Reggae Boyz and Soca Warriors in 2025. Their two game friendly series in Jamaica ended with the home team winning the first 1-1 while the second ended 1-1.

McClaren says he’s impressed with the growth Trinidad and Tobago has shown under Dwight York’s leadership.
