Foreign Affairs Minister Francis Fonseca has explained why he did not accompany Prime Minister John Briceño to Washington, D.C., for a meeting with the United States Deputy Secretary of State. When questioned about his absence, Fonseca said it was due to medical advice following a recent heart procedure. The minister explained that while he has returned to his official duties, he has not yet been cleared to travel.
Fonseca did not disclose when he expects to resume international travel. Prime Minister Briceño led Belize’s delegation to the high-level meeting, where discussions reportedly focused on matters of mutual interest and the continued strengthening of relations between Belize and the United States.
