Minister Julius Espat Visits Seine Bight Police Station to Address Officers’ Concerns

Minister of Home Affairs Julius Espat has made an official visit to the Seine Bight Police Sub-Formation in southern Belize, where officers raised concerns about the need for improved working conditions and additional space at the station. Espat was welcomed by Inspector Anibal Castellanos, the commander of the Seine Bight Police Sub-Formation, along with station personnel and members of the morning relief team.  The minister says the visit was aimed at hearing directly from officers about the challenges they face and identifying areas where their welfare and the facilities at the sub-formation can be improved.  During the meeting, Inspector Castellanos outlined several needs at the station, including additional office space to accommodate the Gender-Based Violence Response and Investigation Unit, as well as personnel assigned to the Quick Response Team. Other operational concerns affecting the sub-formation were also brought to the minister’s attention.  Espat acknowledged that the improvements cannot all be completed immediately but says he recognizes the importance of giving police officers a better work environment. He assured the officers that he will do what he can to address the needs identified during the visit.
