Minister of Health, Dr. Lackram Bodoe, conducted an unannounced assessment of the Adult Accident and Emergency Department at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex on Tuesday.
Dr. Bodoe was accompanied by Dr. Tim Gopeesingh, Chairman of the North Central Regional Health Authority, and representatives of the multidisciplinary team working in the department.
The Minister evaluated operational systems and patient-centred services during the visit. He said the objective was to improve efficiency and patient outcomes. Dr. Bodoe stated that reducing wait times and strengthening customer service remain high-priority areas for reform in the health sector.
The Minister also visited the St. Joseph Enhanced Health Centre. At the centre, he held discussions with staff and patients. He said the Ministry is committed to ensuring that citizens receive timely care across all levels of the public health system.
Dr. Bodoe reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to strengthening healthcare delivery. He said direct engagement with staff and facilities provides insights to guide policy and decision-making.
According to the Ministry of Health, the walk-through assessments are part of an ongoing effort to review systems and engage with staff on the ground. Officials said these exercises assist in identifying areas for improvement and supporting the delivery of health services to the population.
The Ministry added that work continues to strengthen operations within the nation’s hospitals and health centres. Efforts include investments in infrastructure, technology, and training, alongside consultations with healthcare workers.
The Minister indicated that the review of facilities and services will continue as the Ministry advances its healthcare reform programme. He said the feedback obtained will help shape strategies to improve the standard of service delivery.
