Minister Urges Belizeans To Support Upcoming Belikin La Ruta Maya River Challenge

With excitement building for one of Belize’s most anticipated sporting events, Minister Andre Perez is encouraging residents across the country to come out and witness the Belikin La Ruta Maya River Challenge.  The four-day canoe race, which takes place along the Belize River, brings together elite paddlers, community teams, and international competitors in a test of endurance, teamwork, and national pride. The event has grown over the years into both a major sporting spectacle and a cultural celebration that attracts thousands of spectators along the riverbanks.  Minister Perez says the race is more than just a competition, it is also an opportunity for Belizeans to celebrate the country’s rivers and the communities that depend on them.

Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy: “I am excited about it. I know there are some controversies involved with it but honestly it’s just looking at it from the bigger standpoint may the better team win and it’s always a classic and we’re looking forward towards it.”

The La Ruta Maya River Challenge traditionally begins in San Ignacio and concludes in Belize City, with teams navigating rapids, long distances, and changing river conditions along the way./
