Ministry of Education Advances School Construction Plans for Caye Caulker


The Ministry of Education is moving ahead with plans to improve school infrastructure on Caye Caulker following a high-level meeting with key community stakeholders.  In a press release issued today, the Ministry confirmed that senior officials recently met with representatives of the Caye Caulker Village Council and the Ocean Academy Board of Governors to advance discussions on the upcoming pre-primary and high school construction projects under the Belize Education Sector Reform Programme Two.  The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer Dian Maheia, Deputy Chief Education Officer Terri Langford, District Education Officer Sebastian Cab, Director of Policy, Planning, Research and Evaluation Ricardo Gideon, Senior Project Coordinator Ingrid Acosta, and Project Officer Shakira Sharp. Area Representative for Belize Rural South, Andre Perez, also participated in the discussions.  According to the Ministry, the session focused on preparations for the projects, which are expected to commence shortly. Stakeholders also examined plans for the temporary relocation of Ocean Academy students during the construction period.  Participants discussed practical alternatives aimed at ensuring students continue to receive quality instruction in a safe and supportive environment while the new facilities are being built.  The Ministry says all parties shared their perspectives with a common commitment to keeping students’ well-being and educational needs at the center of every decision. Officials reaffirmed their dedication to working closely with the Caye Caulker community to ensure the completed projects deliver improved learning spaces for the island’s students.
