Ministry of Health launches its National Community Health Strategy 2026 to 2030

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has officially launched its National Community Health Strategy for 2026 to 2030, a comprehensive roadmap aimed at strengthening community-based healthcare systems and expanding access to essential health services across Belize.  The launch event included the distribution of a sixty-one-page strategy document outlining the government’s vision for prevention, intervention, outreach, and long-term community health development. According to the Ministry, the strategy is designed to strengthen equitable, people-centered, and resilient healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations.  The document highlights several key priorities, including expanding and training community health workers, improving preventative healthcare services, strengthening community participation, advancing digital health systems, improving emergency preparedness, and increasing support for marginalized and indigenous communities.  Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard described the launch as a significant step toward transforming healthcare delivery at the community level and ensuring that more Belizeans have access to quality care closer to home.

Director of Policy, Planning and Research, Dr. Andres Chell, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the strategy places strong focus on prevention, early intervention, and community engagement as central pillars of Belize’s future healthcare system.

Officials say the initiative will rely heavily on collaboration between healthcare workers, local leaders, households, and community organizations to improve national health outcomes and strengthen resilience against future public health challenges.
