KINGSTON (CMC):

Jamaican motorsport star Sara Misir is set to make waves today when she competes in the season opener of the UIM E1 World Championship in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Piloting for Team Blue Rising, co-owned by cricket icon Virat Kohli, Misir will take on some of the world’s top racers in the groundbreaking all-electric powerboat series.

The championship boasts an impressive lineup of teams owned by global sports and entertainment icons, including LeBron James, Rafael Nadal, Will Smith, Didier Drogba, and Tom Brady, whose team claimed the series’ first championship title last year.

The E1 World Championship, launched in 2024, marks a new era in motorsport as the first all-electric powerboat competition sanctioned by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).

The series features nine teams, each with a male and female pilot sharing race duties. Competitors navigate cutting-edge “racebirds”, sleek, fully electric boats designed for high-speed action, across seven iconic locations.

Speaking ahead of her highly anticipated debut, Misir expressed her excitement and readiness.

“Training has been intense, and I’m looking forward to getting on the grid and setting competitive times. Representing Jamaica on this global stage is a huge honour. My co-pilot, John Peeters, brings a wealth of expertise, which will be key as we adapt to the ever-changing water conditions. It’s all about staying composed and focused, and I can’t wait to take on the challenge,” Misir said.
