Miss Jamaica World Tahje Bennett, was all smiles as she participated in today’s grand finals of the 72nd staging of Miss World in Telangana, India. The 21-year-old secured a spot in the Top 10 of the Americas and the Caribbean region, finishing in the overall Top 40 of the competition.
In response to the achievement, co-franchise owner of Miss Jamaica World, Dahlia Harris, expressed some concerns about the new continental format but was proud of Bennett.
“I think the new format of pairing the Americas and the Caribbean made it extremely difficult to advance,” Harris said, adding, “The fact that she made Top 10 from the continent is a tremendous achievement. We are extremely proud of her!”
This year's selection process saw 10 semifinalists chosen from four continental regions—Americas and the Caribbean; Africa; Europe; and Asia and Oceania—advancing to the quarterfinals. From the 10 quarterfinalists in each continent, the group was narrowed down to a Top 5, then to a Top 2, and finally to four continental winners. In 2024, there were six continental winners – Miss World Asia, Miss World Oceania, Miss World Africa, Miss World Europe, Miss World Americas and Miss World Caribbean.
As the competition rages on, Miss World Martinique, Aurélie Joachim, has gone on to represent the region as Miss World Americas and the Caribbean.
In a Sunday Gleaner article earlier this month, Bennett shared that stepping onto the Miss World stage was far more than a personal milestone.
“Representing Jamaica on the global Miss World stage here in India is truly a dream come true,” Bennett said, adding. “It’s an overwhelming mix of pride, gratitude, and deep responsibility.”
