Miss Mexico Crowned Miss Universe Following A String Of Controversies

Miss Universe has a new queen — and she’s taking the crown amid one of the competition’s most turbulent seasons in years.

Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch was officially crowned Miss Universe 2025 on Nov. 20 at Impact Challenger Hall in Bangkok, Thailand. The 23-year-old model topped more than 130 contestants worldwide to win the 74th Miss Universe title, themed this year “The Power of Love.”

She received her crown from outgoing titleholder Victoria Kjær Theilvig, Denmark’s first-ever Miss Universe, who won the 2024 competition.

But Bosch’s victory comes on the heels of weeks of headline-making controversy inside the Miss Universe Organization.

A Viral Confrontation and Walkout

Just two weeks before finals night, the pageant was rocked by a viral Nov. 4 livestream showing pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil scolding Bosch for allegedly refusing to join a promotional photo shoot.

Bosch denied the claim, but Itsaragrisil continued reprimanding her — prompting several competitors to walk out of the room with her in solidarity.

Later, Bosch told reporters the director “called me dumb.”
Miss Universe Organization president Raul Rocha Cantu released a statement shortly after, saying Nawat had “forgotten the true meaning of being a genuine host” and publicly expressed support for the contestants.

Judging Chaos and Multiple Resignations

The turbulence escalated days before the competition when Miss Jamaica fell and was taken to hospital after sustaining injuries. Adding to the drama, judge Omar Harfouch resigned, claiming an “impromptu jury” had allegedly been formed to select 30 semifinalists without the involvement of the official judging panel.

Harfouch said the panel included members with personal ties to contestants and even someone involved in counting votes, calling it a “serious conflict of interest.”

MUO denied the claims, stating no unofficial jury existed and that all judging followed formal protocols.

The shake-ups continued as judge and former soccer star Claude Makélélé withdrew citing personal reasons, followed by selection committee president Princess Camilla di Borbone delle Due Sicilie, who stepped down the next day.

Replacement judge Natalie Glebova later drew scrutiny after it emerged that she had personally coached Miss Canada, Jaime VandenBerg, who was also competing.

A Win Amid the Storm

Despite the turmoil, Bosch pushed ahead, impressing judges throughout the competition and ultimately securing the crown.

Her win follows a historic 2024 reign by Denmark’s Victoria Kjær Theilvig, who was crowned by 2023 winner Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.

Bosch’s coronation marks a fresh chapter for the Miss Universe Organization — one it likely hopes will bring more glamour and fewer headlines.
