Mitchell Blames Member of Team for X Clap-backs in Apology Statement

Councillor for the Bellefield division, the People’s National Party’s, PNP, Mario Mitchell, is seeking to distance himself from derogatory comments on his X account.

The comments were in response to questions from the public about the recently paved Bush Mount Road in Banana Ground.

In a statement posted to on the account Monday night, following a Nationwide News story about the distasteful comments, Mitchell said he recently became of the aware of deeply inappropriate posts and takes full responsibility for them.

He said they were posted by a member of his team, without his review or approval. The individual, he says, has been suspended and steps are being taken to prevent a recurrence.

Mitchell says he unreservedly apologises to all who were offended. He says the comments do not reflect his values, principles or professional standards.

Checks on Mr Mitchell’s account earlier on Tuesday show that the latest post – “Run in on me and think I’m gonna stay quiet. U have next guess coming. My freedom of speech right will ensure you get a healthy and hearty SYM” – has been deleted.

The original post, a photo of the paved roadway with the caption “New road #14 since elected”, has also been deleted.

However, the derogatory responses to specific users are all still listed under the replies tab.
