Mitchell Owen made a dream debut for Australia on Sunday night with a stunning half century at Sabina Park to steer his team to a three wicket win over the West Indies in the first game of their five match T20 series.

Mitchell slammed 50 off 27 balls with six sixes as Australia chased down a 190 run victory target with seven balls to spare.

Cameron Green, 51, put on 80 with Owen as the pair rescued Australia from 78 for 4.

Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder bagged two wickets each.

Earlier, Ben Dwarshuis took 4 for 36 including three in an over, as he and Nathan Ellis combined to take four wickets for just seven runs in the last 16 balls of West Indies innings to restrict them to 189 for 8.

Half-centuries from Roston Chase 60 and Shai Hope 55 had threatened to set-up a huge total.

Shimron Hetmyer also clubbed 38 from 19 but West Indies’ lower-order combined for 11 between them as they lost 6 for 30 in the final five overs.

Game two in the series will also be at Sabina Park on Tuesday starting at 7 pm.
