MOBO Awards founder and CEO Kanya King has died at the age of 57.
According to a statement shared on the official MOBO Awards Instagram account, she passed away peacefully on June 3, surrounded by family, close friends, and love, following a battle with colon cancer.
Rapper Eve, UB40, Craig David, and Dancehall deejay Stylo G are among the celebrities paying tribute to the late MOBO Awards founder.
UB40 said, “The foundations laid and the legacy you have left behind is beyond remarkable.”
Eve expressed condolences through a series of emojis.
Craig David said her legacy will live on forever through every person she touched with her heart and vision.
Stylo G wrote, “Rest in power. Thanks for acknowledging my talent and giving us a platform.”
Kanya King was a pioneering British entrepreneur who founded the MOBO Awards in 1996. She remortgaged her home to build a platform for Black and underrepresented talent often overlooked by mainstream award shows.
