Molynes seeking turn of fortune in 2025

Having spent Christmas at the bottom of the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) standings, Molynes United head coach Jermaine Thomas said plans are being put in place to lift his team out of the relegation zone.

Molynes currently sit at the foot of the table with 10 points from 14 games. The club is winless in their last three matches with their most recent being a 2-0 loss to Tivoli Gardens on Sunday.

Thomas said two major issues plaguing their season has been their inability to keep a clean sheet as well as an unusually poor performance in front of goal.

He hopes to correct their problems by bringing new personnel to bolster the squad in the JPL’s transfer window.

“Stats would have shown that we have been conceding a whole lot of goals. We have conceded from some elementary defensive mistakes and that has been a huge problem for us this season,” Thomas explained.

“We have been creating good opportunities but we are not putting them away,” the coach continued. “Plans are afoot and we are working assiduously to have these corrected as soon as possible. With the window coming up, we have already made plans to secure personnel that can help us and really contribute to the club.”

Another key factor in Molynes’ poor results has been the lack of goals from their usual talisman Jason Wright.

Wright has been a mainstay in the team’s attack since his arrival two season ago.

The forward has scored 26 goals in 49 appearances across his first two seasons but has only found the back of the net twice in the current campaign.

Thomas said despite his lack of goals, Wright is still a well-trusted figure for the club and they are confident he can find his usual prolific form.

“We know Jason’s quality. You would have seen Jason score loads of goals over the years but for some strange reason, he hasn’t been finding the back of the net as often as he should. We are have been doing everything in our power to make sure to assist him,” he stated.

“Confidence can be a big factor in his finishing and we have been working with him to keep that confidence.”

With the schoolboy football season now done and dusted, Thomas is hopeful to benefit from a boost in youthful exuberance he expects to see from their young players who will be joining the squad.

The McGrath pair of Devone Davis and Jamari Fowler, Happy Grove’s talisman Shevon Miller and St George’s College’s (STGC) maestro Zabir Taylor are key names who could stake their place in the squad.

“The motivation level from these youngsters is going to be greater, that much I can tell you,” Thomas insisted.

“They are going to have a lot more reasons to play and they are going to work harder because they do have a statement to make. As a result of that, I think they will be willing to cover a lot more grounds so coming in, they will add to us in a positive way and I’m really looking forward to them contributing to the team.”

Molynes’ next outing will see them take on Vere Phoenix at the Wembley Centre of Excellence on December 29.
