FOLLOWING a decisive semi-final win over Mico A last Saturday at GC Foster College in the intercollegiate senior netball competition, the Nicole Aiken-Pinnock-coached Moneague College ‘A’ team will be seeking more history today.
Moneague will be playing in their first-ever senior final and the women from the cool hills of St Ann will meet last year’s beaten finalists GC Foster College ‘A’ in the final at the University of Technology at 6 p.m. Preceding this match will be the junior final at 4 p.m. between College of Agriculture, Science and Education and Portmore Community College with GC Foster ‘B’ going up against Mico ‘B’ at 5 p.m. in Intermediate action.
Aiken-Pinnock, a former coach of the GC Foster netball team, will be hoping to go all the way over the Sasher-Gaye Henry-coached team and win their first major title. With outstanding play from her defence unit, led by Fentonian Henry at wing defence, and goal keeper and skipper Ajanah Coleman in tandem with the accurate goal shooter Shanai Martin, they defeated the defending champions Mico in style and are hoping for a repeat performance today.
Coach Aiken-Pinnock knows that it will be no walkover for her team.
“The final will not be an easy one. It will definitely be tougher than the game against Mico, but we are working at some things and hopefully we will be able to execute effectively on the day,” said Aiken-Pinnock who stated that reaching the final is an exciting achievement for Moneague.
After dominating preliminary action, including a win over Moneague, Henry, who is also the coach of the senior national team, will be hoping that her team can go one place better than last year. She will be relying on the likes of national players Zaudi Green at goal defence, goal attack Shadine Bartley, centre Jessica Chaplain along with goal shooter Odeacha Johnson to carry her team to victory.
